Tiger Valley at Akron Zoo in Akron, Ohio
Are you heavier than a bear?
Tiger Valley and the Bears. Akron Zoo specializes in animal species from Southeast Asia.
Sumatran Tiger
The Sumatran tiger is the smallest type of tiger. Sumatran tigers have the most stripes of any tiger covering its body. The tiger's stripes help conceal the animal's body as it stalks its prey.
Malayan Sun Bear
Sun bears get their name from the yellow crescent on their chest. They are the smallest of bears and spend much of their time in trees. These bears have a true "sweet tooth," because they seek out honey.
Trumpeter Swan
The beautiful white plumage and horn-like call makes it easy to distinguish the trumpeter swan. This bird has a loud "honk" due to its elongated windpipe. When the flock takes flight, the calls help keep the birds together. The male and female will mate for life.
These birds were nearly driven to the brink of extinction at the turn of the 20th century. They were easy to kill because they lose their wing feathers and become flightless for one month each summer.
