"The Galápagos, the 19 islands that opened Darwin's eyes to natural selection in the 19th century, face a survival-of-the-fittest test in the 21st.

The larvae of a newly arrived fly, Philornis downsi, prey on the hatchlings of the famous Darwin's finches. On the Darwin Foundation campus, says López, those birds are suffering "100% mortality."
