San Diego Zoo bus tour: Comedian Chris Clobber is "Zooman" during the day

Chris Clobber: “I wrote and perform a thing called the Lighter Side Tour, which is a comedy tour of the San Diego Zoo,” Clobber said during a recent phone interview. “It’s in place of your sort of the generic ‘and then right there’s an elephant’ kind of thing. I love working with everyone at the San Diego Zoo, with the people and the information and everything they’ve put together over there but mostly I like making the visitors laugh.”

Known as the Zoo Man to San Diego families, Clobber has been entertaining locals and tourists for years with his animal sounds and lighthearted humorous take on animal education.

“They call me Zoo Man over at the zoo during the day but they call me Chris Clobber, stand up comedian by night, and the guy at the comedy club and the guy at the zoo have very different approaches,” Clobber said. “

From purpletink007:

Chris Clobber is related to Laurence M. Klauber (1883 in San Diego, California – 1968) who was an American herpetologist, and was considered to be the foremost authority on rattlesnakes.

High-volume "Two Buck Chuck"winery looks like oil refinery on Google Maps satellite images

From The New Yorker:

"It also irritates Franzia when people describe Bronco’s facility, with its 452 stainless-steel storage tanks–including 6 liquid oxygen tanks that once held fuel for intercontinental ballistic missiles and are now being used to make champagne – as being reminiscent of an oil refinery."

From CNN:

"In 2002, Franzia persuaded Trader Joe's to sell a low-end label called Charles Shaw (after the winemaker who sold the tony label to Franzia, and dubbed Two Buck Chuck by consumers) that waged war on domestic wines in the $4 to $10 range - and was named best chardonnay in a blind taste test at July's California State Fair over far pricier competition.

"There's not a doubt in my mind that the two biggest things that have happened to the wine industry in the last 10 years are the movie Sideways and Two Buck Chuck," says Gary Vaynerchuk."

The Bronco Wine Company maintains over 50 brands of wine.

High Sierra: always a dangerous and unforgiving area to fly

From CNN article about Steve Fossett crash site work:

"The high Sierra is always a dangerous and unforgiving area to fly, he said. There's little room for error, Manning said, for pilots who like to fly low and slow, "yanking and banking" through the region's spectacular granite peaks and canyons.

"There are so many things that could have gone wrong," he said. "Was it a medical problem? Did the aircraft fail? He had flown that aircraft before but not a whole lot. Did he know the area? The wind shears, the down drafts? Did he just get into a compromised position where he couldn't get out?""

San Diego-Coronado Bridge, locally referred to as the Coronado Bay Bridge. From Wikipedia: The bridge was designed exclusively for motor-vehicle traffic: there are no pedestrian walkways, bike paths, or even shoulders. It has been said that the reason for this was to prevent persons from leaping off the bridge to commit suicide. Considering the volume of traffic on the bridge as of 2006, should a vehicle break down or encounter another problem, it will almost certainly cause a serious collision, as there is nowhere for the disabled vehicle to go, and no way for oncoming traffic to avoid it.
