5 minutes Sofia - St. Sofia Church (video)

5 минути София - Църквата "Света София" / 5 minutes Sofia - St.Sofia Church (eng.subs) - YouTube http://bit.ly/1bOomRg:

Няма друго такова място в София, а и много по-надалеч. Темели, в които са вкопани кости и история, свидетелства за вяра и любов, печал и щастие, вълнения и горести... Това е "Света София". И така е вече 1500 години.

You could hardly find a place like this anywhere else. Foundations that conceal bones and history, tell of faith and love, sadness and happiness, excitement and grief... Going back in time for 15 centuries.

Taking a trip to Plovdiv | Euromaxx city (video)

Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria. It dates back more than eight thousand years. It was named a UNESCO world heritage site in 2004.

Plovdiv, Bulgaria is easily one of Europe's oldest cities. When did the earliest inhabitants settle? 4,000 BC.

The remains of a Neolithic settlement at Plovdiv suggest a history spanning 6,000 years for a city dominated by the Thracians, then the Macedonian Greeks, and then the Romans, who built it up into a significant conurbation. Ruins from this period are very much in evidence today: the ancient theatre of Philippopolis (Plovdiv’s name in antiquity) is in the city centre, as is the 2nd-century stadium, built to seat 30,000 spectators. The city was seized by the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century, and only freed after the Battle of Philippopolis in 1878.

Pictured Within - Music and Lyrics by Jon Lord

"It is certainly no coincidence that Jon chose to reflect Elgar’s paean to the love of friends and family in his own very personal music.

This song was among the music heard at Jon’s funeral, played by myself and sung by the incomparable Miller Anderson for whom it was originally written."

Recorded From Deep Purple In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra Live At Royal Albert Hall.Singer: Miller Anderson, Conductor: Paul Mann.

Here is Roger Glover's reflection:

"A bittersweet year. It was in the studio in Nashville that we heard about Jon. It was a real blow to the body, even though we expected it. Stories and thoughts of him flooded the following weeks as the enormity of the loss sank in. Back in England we said goodbye to Jon with great dignity, the service was sadness made beautiful with music. When Jon first gave me Pictured Within, I wept at the beauty of it. At his funeral I wept again at the sadness of it. Such moving music. Music that has the power to stir emotions that run deep. He changed my life. I am a lucky man."

Homemade Pizza Recipes - without the need for 800-plus degree brick oven - WSJ

From the WSJ:

Purists will insist that without a brick oven in your backyard, you'll never achieve the sort of blazing inferno (think: 800-plus degrees) that yields carbon-streaked crusts with a balance of crunch and chew.

However, a WSJ experts suggests a simpler arsenal: let your dough rise overnight for fuller flavor, a pizza stone or two to boost and hold that all-important heat in the oven and a peel—preferably metal (tip: you can use the flat back of a baking sheet in a pinch)—to extract the pie with a minimum of mess when it's ready.

The inventor of the first computer - John Atanasoff Jr. talks about his father's legacy

"It was an all-consuming effort," recalled John Atanasoff Jr., who was just 5 when his father was inventing the computer. The younger Atanasoff (now 77), was a CEO of a Colorado medical devices company.

John Vincent Atanasoff (ataˈnasɔf; October 4, 1903 -- June 15, 1995) was an American physicist and inventor. The 1973 decision of the patent suit Honeywell v. Sperry Rand named him the inventor of the first automatic electronic digital computer. His special-purpose machine has come to be called the Atanasoff--Berry Computer.
The son of a Bulgarian immigrant who became an electrical engineer, Atanasoff held positions as a teaching professor, a governmental wartime research director, and a corporate research executive before being recognized in the 1970s and 1980s for digital electronic computer research he conducted at Iowa State College in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Champion boxer Klitschko says he has 2 distinct personalities in and out of the ring - TIME

Klitschko is the only champion boxer who has a Ph.D. and speaks 4 languages.

TIME: How different are you in the ring from how you are now? Do you have to work at getting more aggressive?

Klitschko: I would compare it to an actor. I drive myself into the character that later on is in the ring through five, six weeks of the training camp. But aggression means emotions. Emotions mean you get off your plan, and that means you're going to lose the fight. You have to just execute your game plan. Everything else, all emotions, you have to put aside.

TIME: Can I make a suggestion for your postboxing career? Movie villain. Try saying "Goodbye, Mr. Bond."

Klitschko: I prefer "I'll be back."

An alpha lion's reign lasts only 2-3 years - NatGeo video

"This alpha male lion has territory and females to spare. But when two bachelor males invade his turf, this lion king will have to fight them both to keep his crown."

Male lions mature at the age of 2-3 years and are fully grown by their 4th birthday. They then have 6-7 years of full of life, and are considered old after the age of 10 years.

An average pride consists of about 15 individuals; 2-3 grown males, 3-6 females and their offspring. The females are in most cases sisters. The males in a pride are close relatives - usually blood brothers or close cousins that have grown up together. The leader among them is an alpha male; the others are subordinates whose job is to provide backup in protecting females and the young from adversaries - which includes other lions.

McDonald's Potato, Beef, and Lettuce Suppliers (video)

McDonald's Potato Supplier, Frank Martinez: "Dream Come True". Growing perfect potatoes takes the right amount of water, rich soil and, in Frank's case, a lifetime of experience.

In January 2012, McDonald’s began featuring flattering profiles of its suppliers on its website. In one video, Frank Martinez, a grower in Warden, Wash., brushes the dirt from a spud, slices it, and pronounces it a “good potato!” http://goo.gl/6WtbR

McDonald's Beef Supplier, Steve Foglesong: "Raising Cattle and a Family". Three generations of Foglesongs work together every day to raise the kind of high quality beef that make some of the most iconic hamburgers in the world. If we raised all 100 million cows in U.S. on grass, cattle would require almost half the country’s land.  McDonald's Lettuce Supplier, Dirk Giannini: "Field to Fork". Growing fresh, high-quality lettuce is more than a job. For Dirk Giannini, it's a family tradition.
